When filing taxes that include a charitable contribution deduction, contributors are held responsible for supporting any claims. The requirements will vary based on the type of contribution and amount. - Determine how you would like to contribute to a charitable organization
- Find a qualified nonprofit charitable organization, such as CYC
- See charitable contributions criteria to determine if your contribution qualifies
- Determine the value of contribution
- Choose your preferred method to make charitable contribution
- Get written communication acknowledging the contribution
- Review with a tax professional when claiming charitable deductions when filing taxes
